beach beauty: homemade honey vanilla lip balm

This is not a recipe post, but I saw this online and LOVE the idea.

Homemade lip balm made of simple, easy to find ingredients – none of which are dipolyhydroxystearate.  This sweet little concoction is easy to make, customize, can be a great little “thinking of you” gift, and will help pamper your pout after a day of fun in the sun.

Homemade Honey Vanilla Lip balm:

  • 2 tbsp. petroleum jelly
  • 1/8 tsp. oil of choice (vitamin E, coconut, kukui, olive)
  • 1 tbsp. beeswax
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Container

Melt the first three ingredients. Place the petroleum jelly, beeswax and oil in small microwavable bowl. Microwave for about 3-5 minutes until ingredients have turned into a transparent liquid.

Leave the bowl to cool to room temperature for about 5-10 minutes, then mix in the honey and vanilla. The texture should start to thicken.

Optional: If you want a little shimmer or color, add in a bit of shimmer powder/eyeshadow or a little bit of lipstick, reheat if you need for a minute or so, and stir in.

Pour in the liquid lip balm into a container you chose, and let cool/solidify. Enjoy some simple, beach beauty goodness….then go give someone a big ‘ol smooch.
